Dave, I am currently chasing the H400 right now so that was NGC 4036 and 4041 in Ursa Major at the time. Nice pair of small galaxies. I'll have the observation up tonight at my blog at http://jaysastronomyobservingblog.blogspot.com/ along with the digitized version of my field sketches. Dave, There were two, separated so they were not the Antennae. I'm not sure which direction Jay was looking. I have to admit I have some dyslexia and I'm horribly directionally challenged. I thought it was 4042 and another that he said. -- Thanks, Joe

Joe, could the galaxies have been 4038-39 in Corvus...the Antennae?...or where you looking north at 4041 in Urs. Maj.?

Also, Jay let me see the Ghost of Jupiter planetary (which I hadn't seen before) and a cool pair of galaxies -- were they NGC 4041 and NGC 4042? -- Best wishes, Joe

Sorry, first time today that I have had to post. Wonderful night for me! No frost, no dew (I guess while I was there). I saw on the NWS Mesonet http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/slc/gmap/ that the temp and dew point came close late in the night.
I had one of the best views of M65 and M66 in Joe's scope. Easily see structure in both and the s whip of an arm. For me my favorite pair was NGC 3169 and NGC 3166 (NGC 3165 is there also, but really faint) and the two make a stunning visual image with the surrounding star field. APOD NGC 3466 and NGC 3469< http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.noao.edu/outreach/aop/obse... That APOD show an astrophoto of these two objects, and I need to apologize to Joe for not calling him over on these two but he seemed busy at the time. I managed 12 objects, all members of the Herschel 400 and I sketched each of them which is an on going project of mine. Conditions were really good and I am so glad I went last night.

Just back from Pit'N'Pole -- Steve's recoating the secondary and my cleaning the corrector plate (both sides) turned out fabulous. Saw clearer than in many years, maybe clearing than ever before. Thanks, Joe PS: MAY CAN'T COME TOO SOON!

Sounds like you got quick turn-around from Steve on your recoat job. Good luck!
Maybe L&O meeting in May? May 1, anybody?

Hi Chuck, Thanks -- my answers are I don't know. Hey, as El Presidente, why don't you set a date for an L&O feast? Best wishes and wish me luck tonight, Joe

Joe, out of curiosity, are you using a 4-cycle generator? (Quieter) Also, are you using a larger generator than you need? Have you calculated the total system draw?
I have also looked into after-market automotive-style mufflers for generators. They can quiet them down considerably. Most generators come with minimial, barely functional mufflers.

Hi Jo, When I went there last month for my disaster, I didn't notice anything funky about the road. But I drive a Jeep and maybe that's why. Anyway, I'll probably go there tonight. If you go too, hope you don't mind my generator noise or computer screen. Best wishes, Joe

We were wondering how the road was. We have not been there for years, and way back then, we had some problems with a really big dip in the road. I think it was where the turn off to the actual Pit 'n pole from the first dirt road was. We are pulling a trailer, and our Subaru does not have real high clearance, so I was wondering if others have noticed what shape the road is in these days
Thanks, Jo
