However, we have scheduled some weekday star parties for SLAS members. -- Best wishes, Joe Sent from my iPhone

Chuck, I am Observant Jewish. Shabbos is Friday sundown to Saturday nightfall (after 3 stars can be seen, and determined by schedule....nowadays that happens at about 9:50 pm). Therefore I cannot go to any Sun OR Star Party. We don't use anything that has anything to do with creating. We don't ignite a spark.
I was at ONE Star Party before becoming Observant, at the Museum. I saw the difference between white and red. I discovered I like the red view better. I learned a lot from Rodger that day. We also discussed How all the Jewish Festivals and holidays occur during astronomical events. Our calendar goes by the moon.
Best, Shoshana
The binocs were from B and H, and I just noticed them. I didn't do ANY research :) I just bought the top pair in this list:

I'm sure I will enjoy filters for my 25 X 100's.

Anyone in Sugarhouse have a solar scope? I would love to see! Just ordered solar binoculars, travelling to me as we speak.
Shoshana

Cool, Shoshana! A dedicated solar binocular? What brand? I've never seen such a thing. Are they for white light, or hydrogen-alpha?
I have made many sets of Baader filters for friend's binoculars, they work well and are inexpensive. I use them on my 15x70mm Resolux bino.
I just checked, and there is one small sunspot group visible in white light, the same group I saw a few days ago. If I have time, I'll take out the PST again today for some H-a views. H-a is where the real details are seen, such as prominences, flocculi, and a myriad of other features.
Have you been to a SLAS Sun Party? Lots of scopes to look through, in both white light and H-a. The next one is this coming Saturday at Winchester Park, 8 AM to 11 AM. Everyone is welcome. Winchester Park is located at 64th South 11th West.
