Hi Dale, You have a beautiful observatory. My 2 cents - I use a small cart by my pier. For imaging I can wheel it over by the pier and it will hold the CCD power supply, focuser controller, etc. But, when I have small groups like scouts or others I can move it away from the pier. However, I do have a small tabletop along the wall next to my control room. Clear skies, another Dale.

What is the size of the "table" around yours? I have thought of that, just don't want something that would be bumped into in the dark.

I like the look of all the wood (and really like the pattern in the ceiling).
Perchance are you going to put some sort of wood structure around the pier? Maybe to be topped with a small table or work surface (I've got such a surface on the top of my pier and it has come in handy many times).
