I have an actual piece of the Apollo 11 command module. I scraped a bit off of it when it was on display at the capitol building decades ago. OK, it's probably re-entry ash, but it still counts. A guard yelled at me and chased me out of the trailer. I met Leonov and all the Apollo-Soyuz crew. I gave him a model I made of the Apollo and Soyuz capsules linked together, that I had built. I have 8mm movie footage of their visit to SLC in the '70's. One day I'll transfer it to DVD. I have the newspaper clipping of the time we met. I sketched the mission patch and all 5 crew members signed it. :-) On 12/27/11, Joe Bauman <josephmbauman@yahoo.com> wrote:
Autographs and photos I took of some of the coolest astronauts including Alexi Leonov, the first man to walk in space. Photos I took in the '60s of missile launches. A chip of rusted iron from a V2 (if it's still around -- I haven't seen it in decades). I used to have chunks of solid rocket propellant from a Nike Zeus missile that exploded over our island, but eventually, many years after I returned to the States, I gave them to someone at Thiokol who disposed of them for me. Pictures and notes I took of the first moon-landing and another landing. A tape recording I made of one of the Rangers landing on the moon I think in 1965. -- jb

What astro memorabilia do you have? What's the oddest thing in your collection?
I have several, probably the most off-the-wall is Tom Cave's breakfast-cereal box. No lie.
I also have Harlow Shapley's autograph.
What's tucked-away on your shelf or closet?
