Just a quick report on the outreach a few of us amateurs did for the public at the library in Herriman. On Friday 4/27, hoping for some clear skies there were three telescopes in the parking lot of the library available for public viewing. Amazingly, there were people there waiting for us to set up and for clouds to open enough to at least see the moon. Though the clouds and breeze probably kept others away, there were around 20 or so people who did show up. We did actually get fairly decent views of the moon, Venus, Mars and Saturn. Quite a few ooohs, and awes were of course heard. I know that another event was held at a Harmons and I hope that that also had some success. It is a great thing to share the wonders of the universe with others who would not normally have the opportunity. Wouldn't it be great if there were several outreach events sprinkled throughout the valley near first quarter moon? Personally I encourage all to share the views of the sky we all have ready access to with others who don't have the same access. Go out and help others look up! :) Mat This message and any attachments are solely for the use of intended recipients.
