I experienced the same thing in West Jordan. I called 2 neighbors who had school aged children and invited them over to see the eclipse thru my Questar. between them they ahd 7 children - NO one came - adult or kids!!! Even when I told them it would be another 10 years. I was also very surprised. i susopect people today have many other issues and thoughts on their minds other than astronomy - how sad. I was amazed to see how many people were walking around oblivious to the partial eclipse.
We did offer the welding glasses for people to look through at the partial eclipse, some people didn't even bother to look. I was astonished.
You should send this to S&T. It's hard for me to imagine a soul with so little curiosity.
