Hi David, it was great to see you and the others last night. I apologize for not visiting more but I had my hands full. The big problem was in trying to use my new software that was supposed to provide drift-like accuracy in finding true north. Unfortunately it froze up everything while trying to take a 15-second, no-tracking, image to help align. Much more time went by without tracking and I had to shut down the computer to get its little wheel to stop spinning. By then the scope was badly off but I wasn't aware of the extent of the problem. I could not get it to point correctly. Toward dawn I finally did shut everything down, including the telescope, and then it couldn't get a GPS fix for many minutes. I had to shut down again. At last it took the fix and rotated the telescope so that I could orient on Polaris. That was a hassle because I was nearly standing on my head to look through the finder scope! But after turning everything off and trying again, I managed to find north. Then the setup, minus the new software, operated normally. But it was too close to morning to fiddle enough. I got some views of M74, though not in good focus. I just live and learn. Thanks, Joe --- On Sun, 9/12/10, David Rankin <David@rankinstudio.com> wrote:
