Is there any chance you could hook some rockets to the bowling ball to give it more speed? Course, you would have to unhook the parachute.
Funny you should mention that. Amongst the folks I have heard from is one guy wanting to launch our bowling ball with a cannon and another who wants to use rockets. The rocket guy mentioned they loft bowling balls all the time but use parachutes for recovery. He noted we probably would not use a parachute. :-) Unfortunately the cost of a single launch is $90 and that's just for the motor. The rocket would more than double that. On the other hand the total cost of the airplane was $51 and change. Still, I am going to talk to the owners of Seabase to see if they be interested in hosting a bowling ball (or pumpkin or what have you) chucking contest out there. I've seen such event on Discovery Channel and they look like a lot of fun. Seabase already hosts the local version of Burning Man so a chucking contest isn't too far afield. Boy, just think of it: Air cannons, black powder cannons, rockets and (my favorite) trebuchets! http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Acres/8558 Patrick
