Chuck made me promise not to tell that he's the president of the Ladies Quiltin' Bee of Greater Salt Lake. Sorry, Chuck. Sent from my iPhone

Come over any time you’re in town. Our address and phone number are listed on the member server. As I said, ‘Overcome by art’ is the watchword around here. She has a lot of paintings, too. They’re hanging on walls in nearly every room of the house. Years ago Charlotte made porcelain dolls. When my mother died we took back the doll that she made for her. It’s really cool. There were a lot of relatives that wanted it. Too bad. Ma loved that doll and had it in the living room of her house so everyone could see it. As for rooms with quilting stuff and piles and piles of fabric….we live with that, too. We have one room downstairs with a 26-inch long arm quilter in it with the associated 12-foot table (it’s more like 14-feet wide with the hand cranks on each end). Then there's a bedroom downstairs that is her creativity/sewing/whatever room. It has three (maybe four) sewing/embroidery machines in it that have been collected over the years. Think of Chuck being really in to sewing and you get the picture. A room full of stuff collected over the years.

OMGosh you are so right. The pictures DO NOT do them justice. I understand the applique process but am amazed at the skill and patience anyone must have to do this. I have two sister-in-laws who are quilters. Their houses are filled with quilts they've made. They have rooms with piles and piles of cloth. They go to the stores and spend hundreds of dollars buying 4 yards of this and 4 yards of that. They and Charlotte are obviously kindred spirits. Tip of the hat to them for vision and skill, but how they can have the patience to do what that do... I've made one quilt, it was fun, an adventure and I've made 1-1/2 quilt tops, but desire and patience ran out. I keep saying, you should at least finish what you've started, but desire and patience run out.
I will definitely have to visit sometime and see her work up close. You're work - which is broadly displayed on her web page :) I can see up close over the internet. Thanks for saving me tons of money on travel expenses to St. George.

Answering Joe’s question first. She did not teach at Pioneer Craft House. As to Joan’s question ( I knew that “old babe” would elicit a response) she machine quilts these quilts although she has hand quilted in the past. As for the scenes, some of them she hand paints in watercolor after treating the material with a soy solution she makes up to keep the scene from fading if washed. However, most of those scenes I posted are appliqué (small pieces of fabric she cuts out, paints (if the pieces need it), places, secures, then quilts over). In this show, the only quilt not completely appliqué was the background in “Walk in Zion”. The rest of that quilt was, also, appliqué. Some of these quilts take her weeks to finish. The detail of the piecing can get fairly meticulous. For example, when she did the quilt featuring the aspen trees she had hundreds of little pieces she had to place. As I have said in the past, the attention to detail would drive me nuts. I have no idea how she can do it without going insane. Oh, wait…she married me. Never mind.
A lot of the women in the quilt guild love doing this meticulous, piecing portion of the appliqué process. What they don’t like to do is the quilting portion. For many of them, getting the quilting design and their appliqué design to match is very exasperating. That’s why many of them have Charlotte quilt it for them. They have quilting machines, they just don’t want to try to quilt some of their fancier creations. They always seem pleased with Charlotte’s work and when word gets around the work load can be fairly intense. In fact, one of the quilts she quilted for one of the women in the guild took “Viewer’s Choice” for the show.
Here’s a link to Charlotte’s Facebook page. It shows the “Viewer’s Choice” quilt for the show. Wanda (left) pieced the quilt. Charlotte quilted it. The Facebook photo does not do it justice.

Realizing I am asking the wrong person, but will ask anyway. Dave wouldn't fuss with this information, after all, he "used to be a hunk," but here goes. Are these photos put on cloth and/or particular large images rendered on cloth? and does she hand or machine quilt?

Did she teach at the Pioneer Craft House? Cory thinks she had a knitting class from her there.

Wonderful, Dave! Cory remembers that Chatlotte won a national award for her quilting. Was it the Statue of Liberty?
