Thanks for the post Jay, it was interesting reading. Didn't Herschel build the "Behemoth"? I recall it was a newtonian with a metal mirror. The tube was so long, it was held up by scaffolding and to move it to a new object required pulleys and such. That's a far cry from today's goto's :) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jay Eads" <jayleads@gmail.com> To: "Utah Astronomy" <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Tuesday, November 15, 2011 6:25:52 AM Subject: [Utah-astronomy] Happy Birthday William Herschel Today is William Herschel's birthday. Significant since I am chasing his 2500 objects . . . Here is a nice article on him to enjoy. http://www.oneminuteastronomer.com/4902/william-herschel/ -- Jay Eads _______________________________________________ Utah-Astronomy mailing list Utah-Astronomy@mailman.xmission.com http://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/utah-astronomy Visit the Photo Gallery: http://www.slas.us/gallery2/main.php
