I have on occasion had the same thing happen. I'm not sure how Yahoo's spam filter works (of course they don't really want people to know the specifics or the spammers would use that info to get around the filter) but I do think it tends to be particularly suspicious of mail that comes from a different IP address than what is listed as the return address. Of course the Utah-astronomy list postings fall into that category. It does however, seem to be fairly teachable, so identifying mail in the bulk folder as "Not Spam" helps to keep it from going there next time. In my case anyway, it seems to be worthwhile turning off the immediate delete and checking the folder once in a while. OK, Rich provided the clue.
It turns out that, randomly, a few weeks ago, some posts from utah-astronomy started going into my bulk folder (spam), where I have directed that they be deleted on receipt.
