Hi Patrick- It works fine (both of them, actually). You've used the H.264 video codec, which is a good choice for high compression. You have a number of other options you can explore to get the file size down. The movies you posted are both full DV resolution (720x480) although it doesn't appear that the source material is that high. You might consider exporting in the iPod format, which will give you 320x240 and use roughly 1/4 of the disk space. There are a number of other options in iMovie. Another thing you might consider is QuickTime Pro (about $30--you can do it online). This allows you to open a movie in the Quicktime player and then export it with choice of codec/ resolution/etc. iMovie is a pretty neat app, isn't it? I'm using it right now to put together a presentation I have to do next month in L.A. I'd really love to have FinalCut (the grown up version), but being Xmas season, I'm all tapped out. I'd appreciate it if some of you could go to http:// www.trilobyte.net/paw/18JUL200503.MOV and let me know if you can see it (it's of a recent occultation and is about a minute long).
Turns out the 1 minute video was about 20 MB so to keep the test file a more manageable size I've replaced it with a 2 MB file containing two 3 second clips.
It's still at http://www.trilobyte.net/paw/18JUL200503.MOV .
