Yes. If there's room, install a permanent pier and wedge in your yard. It doesn't need to be anything fancy, just something you can set your scope on and start observing. Sure the skies in the SL valley are not great but you'd be surprised how much you can still see. And it will also help you learn and develop techniques that can be employed when you go to a dark site.
