Science and religion are pursuing truth by different angles. Both are looking at the same sky. Both, for the most part, are doing an adequate job. Since 95% of the worlds population believes in a "supreme being" in one form or another, we can argue that there is an Almighty in charge. From that angle, He is the creator of everything, including all the things we have named "science". We are just learning what these concepts are.
Science is based on proof and facts. Religion is Based on faith and truth. It's like both parties are looking at different 1"x1" squares of a 10 mile map and thinking we really know anything. It's pure arrogance and pride. All of us are merely beginning to understand anything about the cosmos. It is likely that our grandchildren, ten generations later, will still only be scratching the surface.
I believe that what we know, astronomically is accurate as far we can see and prove. I also believe that God is the one who has done all this. We just do not have all the information to make a conclusive explanation on how everything works. The knowledge will come with time, study and patience.

As a veteran of many email kefluffles such as this one, I would like to offer a bit of advice to the participants. If you find 27 emails in your inbasket on a subject, don't start replying to them one by one, read them all first. Someone else may have already expressed your opinion better than you would have. You also miss the warning signs of people leaving the group, a sure sign that off topic has become an irritant. Also you might miss the voice of the moderator warning that any further postings will cause the poster to have his posting privilages revoked.
Groups often split up when they can't seem to find a focus. I would have thought that Utah-Astronomy was about the science of Astronomy, not the philosopy of science. Maybe a new group could be formed under the name "Astronomy and Religion".
Also: Ten years ago this list might have been 6 guys who all knew eachother by firstnames and this was the place where they got together and discusssed anything they felt like. Today this list has about 200 members most of whom came here to discusss or hear discussion of the science of Astronomy.
