Yeah, what she said. No, I didn't mean to say that I was happy for Mr. Buttars' illness and I'm usually not so careless with my meaning. His illness means he can't foist his ideas on the legislative process - hence the "good news" for science. Apologies to all, including Mr. Buttars. I, too hope he will recover, in part to continue to give us all fodder for discussion. I also could have explained the remark about Mr. Bush, but, oh well, I didn't. I listened to a bit of the Diane Rehm show on NPR yesterday and in a discussion about George Deutsch's resigning, one of her guests described a host of instances (including Deutsh's conduct) demonstrating the Bush administration's hostility toward science and scientists, in general. Science shouldn't be a partisan issue but Bush and his administration have made it one. I have heard many of the Republicans on this group indicate a discomfort with Bush's statement supporting Intelligent Design being taught in school. I am sure Kim will apologize, because I know it was not Buttars pain that he was glad for, but I want him to know that those who know him, understood the intent of his post.
