Thanks so much for the encouraging and kind words Chuck! And thank you so much for the offer of help Russ! But we just camped Saturday night by the Colorado and got back to SLC late last night. As it happened, all was not lost because I did remember my 10x50 binoculars! A couple in my group really wanted to see Venus in its crescent phase, and I really thought we'd need a telescope for that but Venus is so huge now I couldn't believe how clearly you could see it as a crescent in the binos! This trip made me appreciate what a great tool binoculars are. After night fell we enjoyed so many pretty clusters, the double in Perseus didn't set too soon, the Pleiades and Hyades were sharp and crisp, Orion's nebula of course, the Beehive, and then a little later Coma B. rose above the canyon wall. A wonderful trip, and a great night! But yes, definitely going to make an equipment checklist now! On Mon, Mar 20, 2017 at 8:31 AM, Hutchings, Mat <mat.hutchings@siemens.com> wrote:
Chuck, you got that right, things like this have happened to us all! After accidentally leaving the truss tubes home for my 16" dob during a trip to Idaho, I made a checklist of things to bring.

Ian, don't feel too badly. We all have done the same thing thing at least once or twice!
If nobody could deliver some loaner eyepieces, then remove your finder eyepiece from the finder and use it. Wrap some tape around the barrel until it fits your primary focuser. Better than nothing! If you don't have tape, just hand-hold it in the right position. Examine what you have on-hand, and find something that will work to hold the eyepiece in the focuser. Foam, bark, trash, paper, anything. We have walked in your shoes, brother.
Hang in there, my friend! Enjoy the solitude and naked-eye and binocular views if you can't use the scope. It will still refresh your soul. And I almost guarantee you that you won't forget your eyepieces again! (Excluding myself as an example, lol.)

Just wondering if any fellow Utah astronomy lovers are out near Moab? I drove down here from SLC with 4 other people and my 6" dob but forgot all my eyepieces!
If anyone is willing to loan (or sell on the cheap?) even an old plossl that would be amazing! Long shot but I thought I'd ask!
Thank you!
