Thanks, Dion. It’s good you could get some photos of the comet, also. Pretty good photos for just holding a camera up to the eyepiece. I don’t think I could do that. The photo would be to blurry from my trying to hold the camera steady. Nice Orion image. The colors are striking. You can see the Trapezium. That’s not visible in my photos. I, too, have a lot to learn. On Mar 30, 2013, at 4:07 PM, Dion Davidson <diondavidson@yahoo.com> wrote:
Beautiful photo, Dave.
I too went out last night to try and see the comet in the eyepiece of my 10" SCT. I have only (barely) seen it through long exposure photography up to now.
Once I found it I was amazed at how beautiful it was. The tail fans out nicely, and seemed to be concentrated at the edges, making it appear almost like a forked tongue.
I tried getting photos of it which was fun: http://sandydavidsons.blogspot.com/2013/03/comet-c2011-l4-panstarrs.html
But in the eyepiece it looked a lot more like Dave's photo!
I did get what is probably my best Orion Nebula photo to date last night: https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/42zW5TZiLGJoexnHvWpD6o4-OAT2Q9xjTKwkMv...
One step at a time... Dion
