Actually on those nights when I'm between projects I sometimes just pick a series of 9 spots in the sky and image them repeatedly for a while and then assemble them just to see what I might have found (that's how I made a couple of my minor planet finds). I'll bet you dollars to navy beans that many of those faintest objects registering are galaxies, themselves.
Patrick should shoot his own deep-field one day (several days, lol).
