Triplets form the core of the Orthoscopic design. They can make for excellent eyepieces. Just be sure the focal length is appropriate. If too long alone, get a plano-convex eye lens to pair with it for a true Ortho. FOV might be on the narrow side compared to UWA types, but sharpness will be unsurpassed. In the Surplus Shed list of new items is a Hastings triplet lens for $8. Their description says they are good magnifiers. Do these have any use as eyepieces, or strictly handheld magnifying lenses?
