Before I moved from Utah, I had my guest network named “Vice surveillance van #357D”. Right after I set it up I had to make a quick trip out of town for work. When my wife picked me up from the airport a few days later, she said “you’ll never guess what is going on in the neighborhood”. She proceeded to tell me about how she was trying to figure out the dead spot on our network, and noticed the new SSID, calling it “Police surveillance van”, and that she was so curious as to what was going on she went for a walk around the neighborhood. A few streets over, we had a neighbor who was a painting contractor and had a POS white windowless van outside his house. She walked around, sneakily tried to listen to the outside of the van, sure there was something nefarious going on.. I let her tell me all about it and then said, “are you sure it wasn’t Vice Surveillance Van #357D?”. She said “oh, whatever” and continued her story...for about 5 seconds. She stopped in the middle of the airport parking garage and with full fury in her voice asked me “just what did you do?”. It took a long time for her to forgive me for her walking around and putting her ear up to some random guy’s van.
