Neighborhood Watch has a program in some areas called HALO (Have A Light On) that is supposed to prevent crime. They implemented this in my area a few years ago. Quite a few of the people in the subdivision still keep 3 carriage lights on all night. I put motion censors one my lights and reduced the bulb to 15 or 25 Watts. I also set my lights to only stay on for 2 minutes when triggered. A few houses are doing something that seems to be dark sky friendly. The have put recessed lighting in the eaves. This lights the house and the ground but the only light going up is reflected off the surface. I think that it makes the house look nice and I think that it would look even better with lower watt light bulbs. I never turn mine on unless I'm expecting someone. I don't understand why so many people think they need to leave their outside lights on all night. _______________________________________________ Utah-Astronomy mailing list Utah-Astronomy@mailman.xmission.com http://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/utah-astronomy Visit the Photo Gallery: http://www.utahastronomy.com
