I think of UA as a group of friends who are interested in astronomy, sitting around a table and talking. Nobody should try to restrict their conversation to one topic. It's fun to gab about whatever's interesting to folks. If you don't want to enter into that particular topic, check the subject line and delete the comment. But I enjoy our veering off into this, that and the other topic. So what if the discussion is about veterans? Several of our group are veterans and they deserve recognition, and it's OK to give it to them in a forum we all share. Each discussion group has its own flavor, and I very much appreciate the eclectic approach of ours. Let's not get oppressive. -- Joe ________________________________ From: "jcarman6@q.com" <jcarman6@q.com> To: Utah Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Monday, November 14, 2011 10:09 AM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Sun - large dark filament I have the greatest respect for Veterans, although I am not one of them. As a woman, in particular, I enjoy my country and the privilege of enjoying astronomy because of them. I take the need to send our country's men and women in to battle, to die, very seriously, even as a private citizen. Asking for opinions is appropriate for any board and waxing nostalgic is also enjoyable, but grumblling about things that are way past and can't be changed is useless and boring. SLAS can be as tripping over itself political as it wants, as always. This is Utah-Astronomy. It's nice to get back on topic, especially after the endless posts on Coon's Chicken Inn, Sambo's, 5 cent coffee, tires and cheap gas. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Chuck Hards" <chuck.hards@gmail.com> To: "Utah Astronomy" <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Sunday, November 13, 2011 11:35:44 PM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Sun - large dark filament Yeah, Veterans Day only goes so far. http://spaceweather.com/ notes that many observers are describing the largest filament seen in years moving across the solar disk.
