Note that batteries' performance goes down considerably with temperature. And as their charge is used their output voltage drops, which is a problem for some things but I don't know if or how this affects use via an inverter. It seems odd to take a 12V DC battery, invert it to 120V AC, and then convert it down to 19V DC (or whatever your laptop requires); it seems there ought to be a more efficient way. -----Original Message----- From: utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Joe Bauman Sent: Sunday, February 27, 2011 11:59 AM To: Utah Astronomy Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Winter Star Party at Great Basin National Park Hi Kelly, Thanks! I have a generator but it would be annoying to anyone else at a star party. Do you think the batteries could power my laptop all night? I have other batteries that I use for other needs, but it's the laptop that's an electrical hog. I think I have an inverter too, but if not I could buy one. There is no a convenient electrical outlet to use. However, I have a couple deep cycle batteries you could use - all you would need to bring is a inverter.
Just let me know and I'll get them charged.

Hi Kelly, Is there an electrical connection where the star party will be held? Thanks, Joe
