The images are shot with Opportunity's Microscopic Imager (MI). A single MI image covers a piece of ground 3 cm across. During today's news conference they said the spheres are abut 5 mm in diameter. Photographers out there might be interested in knowing that the MI's depth of field is a "whopping" 4 mm.
