I found a great "movie" made by Stéphane Guisard that shows Gemini in the zodiacal light from Chile: http://www.astrosurf.com/sguisard/Anim-astro/Paranal-ZL-MW/SGU-Paranal-Zodia cal_Light-MW-const_names.html. Be sure to check out his homepage and other pics/movies - he's done some great work. This guy has talent to equal that of many of our Utah astro-imagers. :-) Kim -----Original Message----- From: utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Patrick Wiggins Sent: Wednesday, September 15, 2010 7:45 PM To: Utah Astronomy Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Zodiacal light Hi Stephen, In case you have not seen it yet there's a very nice image of the zodiacal light on page 78 of the current (October) issue of Sky & Telescope. patrick On 07 Sep 2010, at 19:22, Stephen Peterson wrote:
Made the mistake of telling the wife last night about the zodiacal light potentially being visible at this time. So at 03:25 am she get me out of the sack and handed me some strong coffee. Off to highway 59 to find a dark spot on the way to Hildale. First side road had a 30 degree hill to the east so back on the highway. Finally pulled over and think we saw it at 0518 local, well before astronomical twilight began. Faint and relatively low to the horizon, but triangular and N of the Milky Way. Took a photo but contrast is poor. A surprisingly high amount of traffic on that road and at that time. Lots of fun though in retrospect and worth trying to see from a dark sky.
