I left the NHMU event at about 6pm with some friends, bound for Lakeside if we needed to go that far. We stopped at Grantsville and had acceptable conditions. Mostly clear skies with a couple of cloud bands that made for some interesting viewing. A couple of folks came and joined our party, my 8" dob and 1 Chuck Hards Sunspotter providing the wow factor, well only two-thirds of the wow factor that could've been, since I FORGOT to bring my newly-made-lastnight solar filter for my recently acquired 80mm. Ugh. Great times overall, thanks to everyone who participated at the NHMU event and to Steve for all his hard work! I initially regretted not going to St. George or really anywhere south, but after having an opportunity to introduce a couple of friends to astronomy by seeing a last-chance event like this, it was worth it. I'll post some pics in a bit, but I just had to vent my excitement! On Tue, Jun 5, 2012 at 10:25 PM, WAYNE S CLARKE <waynesclarke@msn.com>wrote:
Welder's glass works great. I was surprised that Venus stayed in the upper-right-hand quadrant of the sun from when I first saw it, just after four until the sun set. What's up with that. I expected the planet to cross the sun in a diagonal appearing manner.
