Just back from Bryce. GREAT skies down there last night. Happily they're supposed to stay that way for a few more days (both here and there). Regarding the Hawaii trip there was a couple from Maui at Bryce last night. I told them about the trip and learned that they live on an estate that they just might make available to the SLAS group. I reached for my phone to call Rob so they could speak only to find I did not have his number in my phone (bummer). So I gave them contact info so they can contact Ann (and eventually Rob) when they get home. As for getting around over there, they pointed out the obvious that to get from Haleakala observatory on Maui to the various observatories on the Big Island we'll have to cross a small piece of ocean. Up to now most have flown. However our new friends noted that a new high speed ferry is about to go into service. Apparently once it gets up to speed the whole thing will rise up out of the water on 3 small hydrodynamic surfaces. Sounds like fun. pw
