I've always loved M22. I hope you revisit this one cause it is worth the trouble. Nice image anyway. Is your 81mm a William Optics refractor? I wish I could stay up late and try some doubles. The heat tires me out this time of year. On Fri, Jun 6, 2014 at 2:09 PM, Dave Gary <davegary@me.com> wrote:
Thanks. I never seem to have time to really try. Also, the astronomer's lament, I need more aperture! My images are taken with an 81mm refractor. I don't take galaxy images because I can't see them well enough through this scope to amass any detail. Andromeda is the only galaxy I've managed to capture and the image downloads range from 5 to 10 minutes for each exposure. Add the darks to that and I'm spending a lot of time in the driveway. Almost spent the night there last night. Thankfully, Nebulosity informed me "image complete" and snapped me out of my slumber.

If that's your quick and dirty, I'd hate/love to see one where you really try :) You're putting alot of astrophotographers to shame.

Here’s a quick and dirty image of M22. The temperatures are nice for sitting out in the driveway, but the timeframe for getting a decent image sucks. It doesn’t get dark enough to image until around 22:00. This one was taken about 02:00 this morning. I fell asleep in the “observatory" chair and when Nebulosity informed me the image was complete I just about had a heart attack. I’m going to try to get M27 (Dumbbell Nebula) tonight/tomorrow morning. Is a generic narrowband nebula filter the best to use to image this object or should I use an O-III filter? That’s all I have for nebula filters.
