Yes, the NGC/IC Data base reports that with a 17.5"/444.5 mm scope the tail is not visible, but that both IC 819 and IC 820 are. I don't think a 10 inch/250mm will capture this unless it is on a pristine night, in a very dark site. The LVM for most 250mm is between 14.1 to 14.5. Having said that, someone will of course have seen them in a 250mm. I have a friend in Finland who may have or knows someone who may have. I'll email him. What size scope are you going to use to go after the Mice?
In all seriousness, when Mark Bloomenthal starts me training on the Grimm, I plan to pester him to use the 36" on it.
Dyer and Ling suggest that from a dark sky site, it can be done with 250mm, but I'm skeptical on that. Anyone else here seen them and if so with what?
