The reason I'm interested in featuring this on the planetarium blog is because Orion is well-placed in the night sky right now and the casual observer with a pair of binoculars can actually see for themselves what the photograph represents. To read a short piece about an amateur photographer and "first light," with a new camera, compare that with any of the more famous images of the nebula, and then step outside with a pair of binocs and then lay eyes on the thing in real time - that's a powerful lesson.
