I guess that just means Navajo's have had more basic things in live on their mind.
This reminds of a story, a bit unrelated, that John Dobson told a few of
us when he was in SLC years ago. The story took place in the late 80's, as I recall. He was on the Navajo reservation doing a star party at one of the reservation schools, observing the Moon. He explained to a couple of high-school age girls that we know that the Moon is composed of the same stuff as the Earth. One of them asked, "Well how do we know that?" He replied that when the Apollo astronauts were on the Moon they collected rock samples that consist of the same minerals as Earth. The girls looked at him, incredulously, and one asked, "Do you mean that people have been on the Moon?"
I don't share that to ridicule anyone; it's just a fact of life that not everyone has the same educational experiences that most of us take for granted.
