Who is Sterling Poulson? On 6/24/10, erikhansen@thebluezone.net <erikhansen@thebluezone.net> wrote:
Rodger,
I did get the impression that the star party was well attended. There was a star party hosted by Clark Planetarium at the Larry Miller Motor Sports Park that night also. I was just wondering if some folks saw the observatory on the way to that event and decided to check it out, or perhaps even got confused and thought that was the Clark Planetarium Star Party. Perhaps that contributed to the turn out as much as any press coverage.

BTW, Sterling Poulson broadcasted that the Lunar Eclipse was going to occur the morning of Tuesday June 22nd. Did anyone else catch that?
Erik,
The star party at SPOC Saturday night was very good. We had the biggest crowd yet this year and the seeing was reasonable. It was even fairly warm but the mosquitoes were out in force. I think they had spent all day honing there beaks on the rocks around the lake so they would be ready for us when we arrived.
It was a good event.

If we advertise a star party, then someone has to show up. Some of the public has become upset even when its raining. The "weather permitting" qualifier is often ignored.
BTW: Did last Saturdays SPOC turn out benefit from the Clark Planetarium do out at LHM Motor Park?
Yeah, it's certainly not for the coffee at Denny's.

And I think the story also illustrates why we don't always show up only when the weather is perfect.
