Kurt's point is a very good one. In fact the current trend of professional speakers as the norm is a recent feature of the last few years. Historically, the majority of SLAS meetings featured presentations by members. Some of my favorite meetings were put on by club members, especially when ATMing was a larger focus of the membership (I miss Brent!). It's been a while, but even I have given 2 presentations in the 21st century. One was one of the last meetings at the old Hansen Planetarium, probably at least six years ago, and the last was at the Senior Center on 10th east, when we still met there. I would encourage any member with something to offer, to contact the club president and offer to give a presentation. On 8/22/07, Kurt Fisher <fisherka@csolutions.net> wrote:
One of the purposes of SLAS is to develop the astonomical skills of its members. I hope the club continues to encourage regular presentations by its members on any appropriate astronomy topic as a means of increasing the skill the level of its members, interspersed with the club's high-standard professional astronomer presentations.
