I did some observing last night west of Tuacahn. I was observing a few
Caldwell objects in Cepheus when I decided to try Caldwell 9, the Cave Nebula. It
was barely visable with my 15" Obsession scope with the OIII filter. I don't
know how this object got it the Caldwell catalogue. This is more of an object for
CCD astro-photography in my opinion. I wonder if Sir Patrick Moore ever saw
this elusive object. I think he should of put in his list, NGC 281, the Pac Man
nebula, instead of the "Cave" nebula. NGC 281 is a better and brighter
emission nebula. I now understand why the Cave Nebula is such a controversial
object. I'm glad I didn't spend much time on this object. But I will definitely come
back to NGC 281 in the future.
