Hi Joe: You can't shoot the whole universe in one night! Imaging the planets isn't affected one hoot by light pollution, nor is lunar imaging (or solar!). You'd build up a nice portfolio of solar-system objects while gaining valuable experience for those more precious dark-sky sessions, and not have to waste them in frustration.
