Michael, Minus the wind (I don't mind the cold) I envy you tonight. If your looking for some suggestions here are some. Some objects will repeat from the Messier and Herschel 400: 110 Best of the NGC http://seds.org/messier/xtra/similar/sac110bn.html Manual with finder charts for Best of the NGC www.saguaroastro.org/content/db/Book110*BestNGC*.pdf The Seasonal Best Planetary Nebula http://www.blackskies.org/seasonbst00.html Just pick the season and go to work. Then one that I really like doing is just opening an Atlas up to a constellation this is in good position and work the constellation from either top down or bottom up til I've seen all of those objects. You could also do the Herschel II list (not as promising as the H400): http://www.astroleague.org/al/obsclubs/herschel/h400lstc.html I truly hope that you have a great night. Do expect a report and to hear how the ground is out at Lakeside. Jay On Sun, May 1, 2011 at 6:38 PM, Michael Vanopstall <opstall@math.utah.edu>wrote:

Thanks for the suggestion. I have a 6" scope, so that's out of my range. I was sort of looking for suggestions. I've done the Messiers, Caldwells visible from 40 N, and the Herschels, but there are about 30 objects in Steve O'Meara's "Hidden Treasures" book that I haven't seen. I probably mix some of those in with a mini-Messier marathon. It's been a long time since I looked at Messiers, and it sounds like fun. Just feels like a good night for the desert and some clear skies.

Michael,
You should take a moment and head to NGC 3972 in UMa. Listed about 14th mag. but visual observers are seeing it in 10 and 12 inch dobs so it would be worth a try. Reports have it as a stellar object.

Michael,
Wish I could. Looks a little windy but other than that transparency is excellent, seeing is good and humidity is low. Should be a wonderful night. Man, I wish we had had good weather every day this last week.

Hello --
I haven't been out in a while, and I'd very much like to go to Lakeside tonight. Just curious if anyone else was planning on going out there that I would be annoying. For once, I'll probably be out at about sunset to get an early start, but maybe not stay out all night.
Thanks.
