Eclipsed by well, an eclipse, was a great observing session on 5/19. I met good friends Jay and Jorge at the Pit-N-Pole last Saturday for some DSO hunting in good skies. The conditions were not perfect, but jeepers, we live in a place that has dark skies within an hour of anywhere. And I took advantage of it that night. My hit list was very ambitious, but I was determined and I believe it was a first, but I hit every single object on the list. I have very lengthy hit lists, and I thought that there was no way I could bottom this one out, but I did and then some! By far the majority of objects hit were galaxies in UMa, Canes Venatici, Coma and Virgo with others in Leo, Corvus, Crater, Hydra, Camelopardalis, Bootes and Sextans. 55 was the total count of which 42 were new to me. I now have a new favorite galaxy pair: NGC4754/4762. What a striking duo of similar, but differently oriented galaxies. Jorge got a great image of NGC4762 with his new camera. What a night! Now that it is getting warmer, y'all need to come out with us and observe some DSO's in dark skies! Mat This message and any attachments are solely for the use of intended recipients.
