Thanks Kurt! Although I don't think that Hubble will have the angular seperation necessary to really get a good look at the comet from the side as would the probes around Mars or even farther out. After all it is in low earth orbit, practically the same thing as being here. I'd be really dissapointed if NASA or the ESA didn't use other probes/satellites to check out this unique comet. BTW there is a really good picture of Holmes on http://spaceweather.com/that shows Holmes' tail, looks like it takes a very long exposure to catch it! Your french one you linked to earlier shows the ion tail very well. Howard --- Kurt Fisher <fisherka@csolutions.net> wrote:
Howard,
Hubble Space Telescope scheduled time to observe Comet 17P on Oct. 29 12:18 UTC (6:18am MDT).

The current week schedule shows observations also set for 10-31 and 11-2.
Next week's schedule -
http://www.stsci.edu/ftp/observing/weekly_timeline/timeline_11_04_07
shows nothing for 17P.
As to whether any images will be released - I haven't heard anything and do not know anything about "Weaver" - the researcher listed as taking the images.
