We had a fun L&O meeting this morning. Siegfried and Bruno attended, Ray, Joe & Corey, Rich, and Norm and Kay as well as myself. We looked over plans for the Jack Newton solar spectroscope; Joe was extremely skeptical of the safety of the whole affair despite Siegfried and I assuring him that he wouldn't burn his eyeballs out with it, so I suppose I'll just have to build one and show him. Much talk of the history of early aviation, Mercury and Venus transits, Browning Arms- Kay is a walking arms encyclopedia! Also a few stories of woodshop teachers we had in our youth, seems they are all cut from the same cloth, lol! Rich took posession of his newly repainted 8" Dynascope tube and finder, done in "Hot Wheels" metallic green. Kay and Norm got some modified parallelogram parts to make it more friendly for 80mm binos, and Kay picked-up his Jaegers 50mm refractor solar-scope/spotter. I brought along my 20x70mm bino, solar filters, and parallelogram but the sun didn't decide to show-up. Kay brought a 70mm bino in need of collimation so I'm going to see if I can bring it back to life. And the pie was sinfully good! I'm thinking of the next meeting sometime in mid-March. I'll try and pick a Saturday with as few conflicts with other events as possible, and try for at least 3 weeks advance notice. Bring something for show-and-tell, and have some good stories ready!
