Pretty quiet on Utah Astronomy today. It's almost like everyone has left town... Siegfried is in Kanarraville and called in a panic saying the Sun had set well before the time annularity will be starting tomorrow. After three years of working with the folks down that way to plan this whole shindig I probably would have freaked had I not already spoken to the Kanarraville fire chief who was watching the Sun as we spoke at tomorrow's time of annularity and the Sun was still well above the horizon. So Kanarraville is good to go for tomorrow. I called the chief back a bit later and he said the Sun touched the horizon at 8:08 and was gone by 8:13. So we'll miss the last few minutes of the partial but I don't think anyone will complain. He said that hundreds of people have been driving through town today checking out sites for tomorrow. Many from overseas. He added that he has rented every available porta-pottie in Iron County so if the folks elsewhere find it difficult to find a place to go, now they'll know why. :) Also spoke with a reporter down by Zion. Not surprisingly they lost the Sun behind their very high horizon long before 7:30. BTW, the fire chief I've been speaking with is Tyler Allred. He calls himself the Southern Utah Tyler Allred as he's very familiar "the one up north". LOL patrick Sent from my iPad
