There was an episode of the "New Yankee Workshop" where Norm visited the salvage operation and took delivery of some redwood. He used it to make some outdoor funiture but never mentioned any problem with smell. Perhaps only some of the reclaimed wood has the problem. As I recall the salvaged wood has up to 11 percent salt content. I know it's a challenge to both work and finish but I've never tried to work any myself.
