I don't think Hawking is a fan of Einstein, not an opponent, just trying to build upon and/or get around some of Einstein's theories. Do you know where Thorne is these days? I keep mixing Kip Thorne with Rip Torn who was an elderly comedian many years ago. Talk about a contrast of personalities.

Stephen Hawking? What about Kip Thorne? He predicted over 30 years ago that the first likely gravitational-wave candidate would be the merger of a binary black hole system. Pretty prescient, I'd say. Besides, he’s a native of Utah (born in Logan) and was once a professor at the University of Utah.

Dale caught it first, but IMHO the link he provided to an astronomy.com article was probably the most poorly written scientific announcement ever written .
This is really exciting news. Wonder what Stephen Hawkings is thinking righr now _______________________________________________ Utah-Astronomy mailing list http://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/utah-astronomy
