A year ago I would have said that Pit n Pole was easier on a car because of the large bump when you turn right at Lakeside. However, this winter some people in 4wd got out to the Pit n Pole road and right where you turn right from the main dirt road (the main dirt road is fine for anyone) there are some huge dips and gauges where cars spun out in the mud. This are hard now but you have to go very slow. I haven't been to Lakeside yet but if the road is the same, Lakeside is easier. In the end at the Pit if you turn out into the grassy area and avoid the 4wd spun outs and dips you'll be fine. On Thu, Jun 23, 2011 at 7:13 PM, Joe Bauman <josephmbauman@yahoo.com> wrote:
I think they're both doable; my impression is the dirt road is easier at Lakeside. Jay? -- jb

I was hoping for good weather to keep trying out my new autoguider a bit more, I will try to be there if you guys don’t mind, btw I know the drive through the dirt is short, but how sedan-car friendly is it? TIA -Jorge G. On 2011-06-23 04:48, Jay Eads wrote:
I am going observing on Saturday (forecast looks good right now) and will have my friend George with me. We are looking at the Pit and probably being there until around 2:00a.m. or 2:30a.m. when the waning crescent moon comes up. If you are interested, your welcome to join us. If the forecast changes it will be a no go but I don't think that will happen.
