Joe, Sky & Telescope ran an article some years ago on passive dew and frost prevention. I'll try and look it up, as time permits. Passive measures require no power and are effective for about 3/4 of the dew/frost conditions most people encounter. On those really bad nights though, sometimes dew chasers are the only solution.
