OAS is planning to come down in February. We are currently thinking we will be observing on the 17th & 18th. We are planning to use the BlackMountain Petroglyphs site. We have been going down every year since the Columbia return. Most of the years we have gone out to the Warner Valley and Ft Pierce. Unless they have done some work on the road, it would require 4X4 to get to Ft. Pierce from St. George. The sand dune had moved across the road and was difficult to get through. You can get there from Hurricane. The main reason for moving from that site was 4X4 traffic. There was a lot of it at all hours. One year Debbie had to run off about 10 trucks full of people wanting to do a bonfire in the parking lot. The turnout near Virgin is good but there are some Dam Lights that shine up (from the dam) to the cliff walls. They can bother you if you don't get positioned right. It can also be quite windy there. The other sites Debbie and her friends use down there are typically high in elevation. This defeats the purpose of going to St. George in February (to be warm). We always have a great time and enjoy the trip. Even if it is cloudy, we can always make a trip to Mesquite for dinner. All astronomers are always welcome to OAS star parties so come and observe with us. We will post again closer to the party to get names and numbers so that we can stay connected down there. I think Dave Dunn is coming down that weekend as well. I just need to stay away from the mosquitos. I was at Gunlock Reservoir Tuesday night and got a few bites on my arms and head. Besides the mosquitos, it was windy. I don't think I will be going back to Gunlock anymore. Debbie On Mon, Oct 3, 2011 at 7:08 PM, Craig Smith <cs2560@gmail.com> wrote:
I'm planning on coming down for President's Day; any plans down there then?
(Please excuse the change in subject; I thought this should be its own thread.)

Thanksgiving weekend is a new moon. I'm planning on going out to the Little BlackMountain Petroglyths around November 25th weather and health permitting. You get off at the Southern Parkway exit off of I-15. It's 5 miles east of the Arizona strip. I saw Omega Centauri out there this spring.

Joe,
Awesome job! Enjoy the contrast on this one even more.
With enough lead time, I would take a day or two off work and head south come January or February.

Yes! We should organize another St. George trip in December or January. Thanks, Joe

Awesome Joe. Your persistence and dedication is paying off big time. When it gets a little cooler come down south for warmer temps.
