I used Photoshop. Because I had inadvertently left my lens vibration reduction setting on, and due to some wind vibration and me accidentally bumping the tripod, it resulted in each image being positioned slightly differently. I had to bring all of the photos into one Photoshop file (was a 4.5GB file for the first sequence) using Load files into Stack and manually align them (automatic alignment failed). I then created a timeline and converted the Photoshop layers to frames in the timeline, then exported to HD quality, 30fps Quicktime. I think you need CS5 or 6 to do this.
Finally I brought the movies into iMovie to create the final product, slowed down the footage a bit to give a frame rate of around 20 fps (extending each sequence while still being relatively smooth), and added some video stabilization to the 2nd sequence so it wasn't so jittery.
If it's clear tonight, I'm going to try again with VR disabled, a more stable tripod, and (hopefully) my remote shutter timer working so I don't have to stand in the cold and push the remote button every 5 seconds for 45 minutes. This will also make the animation more smooth.
Other tips I'm learning the hard way: - Use mirror lockup if you have it. - Manual settings only - focus, white balance, iso, exposure, etc. Auto anything will result in varying exposures throughout the sequence. - Good, warm batteries. You can't change a battery during the sequence without a big gap. - Capture photos at least every 5 seconds, if possible. For a smooth 30fps movie you'll need 150 photos (or 12.5 minutes) for a single 5 second video sequence.

Yep. We saw it in the telescopes, the finders, in binoculars ald as it got darker naked eye. I was only able to see it naked eye by looking along the telescope tube. I would not have just picked it out. It's by no means a great comet, not even a good comet but it is a comet and now I have seen it. I went out to SPOC with my brother-in-law, George Van Komen. We had a good time. Later Kurt Fisher picked out Messier A & B on the Moon. I had not paid attention to them so it was a real treat. Thanks Kurt.
