Bob, I am not sure there are many benefits to the f6 adapter. If you are doing photography you'll get shorter exposures on extended objects, but you can still do good deep sky work with an f10. It just requires different eyepieces. BTW, many folks think that deep sky is best done with low magnification. Some of the best views of deep sky objects will be at moderate powers - around 20 power per inch. This blackens the background and makes the object more visible. It essentially increases contrast considerably. Galaxies are easier to see with this technique, and globulars will knock your socks off. Some of my best memories of objects are at 350X with the 22 inch. Bottom line - IMHO, don't waste your money on the expander. (I would say that you have wasted enough, but I don't want you to go away in a huff!) Brent --- RStmarie@aol.com wrote:
Somewhat along the lines of your focal length and mirror discussion.....You guys have any comments on the effect of focal reducers on Schmidts? Should allow you to have, say, an f/10 scope and, in effect, an f/6 too. Flattens and widens the field allowing some deep sky stuff, with a scope still able to do average planetary work. I know a schmidt isn't a compromise everyone is willing to make but...and remember, I am a rank amateur and will quit this list in a huff if you say bad things about Schmidts.
