Many, many moons ago when I was but a wee lad I used to watch Sgt. Preston of the Yukon. One of their commercials said that if one send in box tops from some cereal they'd send you a deed for one square inch of land in the Yukon. I did just that and got my deed. Hmmm, I wonder if I should be paying taxes on that land. Regarding owning things in space some guy claimed to own minor planet Eros. Later when NASA landed a craft there the guy sent NASA a storage bill. I don't think they paid. As for the lady and the Sun, now I know who to sue next time I get a sunburn. And one last thing, here's a story going around on the meteorite email list I'm on: Man prayed to Jesus for ice meteorite http://madmikesamerica.com/2010/11/man-prayed-to-jesus-for-ice-meteorite/ Looking forward to NASA's news conference Thursday, patrick On 30 Nov 2010, at 21:00 , Jay Eads wrote:

"Duran, who lives in the town of Salvaterra do Mino, said she now wants to slap a fee on everyone who uses the sun and give half of the proceeds to the Spanish government and 20 percent to the nation's pension fund.
She would dedicate another 10 percent to research, another 10 percent to ending world hunger -- and would keep the remaining 10 percent herself."
Hmm, so if you take a solar image or view, you have to pay for it . . . . doesn't sound too legal given that Outer Space Treaty in 1967, signed by over 100 countries forbids any sovereign nation from owning a celestial body. She claims that he is an individual though. Man, what will some people think of? Then again there was Denis Hope who made a similar claim on the moon and who was ignored by the government but went ahead and sold deeds making millions.
