We've nearly come full-circle. Little Mountain is only ten minutes further up Emigration Canyon. It's too bad that access to the summit was lost- damn those responsible. Setting up by the gate isn't nearly as good because of the adjacent road. That site was the best as far as a compromise between darkness and proximity to SLC. Skies to the east were excellent in fact, although that direction has deteriorated a bit in the intervening decades due to growth in Summit county. I sure miss those '70's star-parties up there. I could be there in 15 minutes from my front door. Now, a valley or bench location is preferrable if the goal is simply public outreach and awareness, and that is the point of "Astronomy Day". But if one sees a club as primarily a vehicle for associating with others of similar interest, Little Mountain would still get my vote as a close place to meet on public nights. Ah, the memories. This Is The Place is actually a pretty decent place for star parties. I was there as well. I think that it's possible to build up a decent crowd there for those unwilling or unable to make the drive out to SPOC.
