No, I did not make it to Wolf Creek as I have recently fallen into the ATM trap that I am careful to warn others about when they show an interest; it can/will take over your life if you don't watch it. It is all good though, as what I am doing is for my daughter. We have been working on an 8" Newtonian ball scope together over the summer while she is here during her summer break. She expressed an interest in taking the scope with her back to college and I just cannot turn that request down. She of course is not demanding it be done, but if there is an interest there, I really want to accommodate it. We really need to get the next generation out there enjoying the night sky. That project is nearly done and as she leaves on Saturday it looks like the scope will be going with her. The mirror will be uncoated, but it is a BVC mirror, so the reflectivity is relatively high without being coated. I'm sure that the figure will not be as good as I want, but at least she will have a working telescope and I can tweak the figure and get it coated later. Wish me and her luck as we paint the scope, figure the mirror and do the final assembly, before Saturday AM. First light was last Friday night just to check things like tube length (nailed it), and mirror astigmatism (none). Once we get pictures of the completed scope, I'll post them. The ATM session attendees have seen this project unfold over the past few months. Chuck, sounds great about the grinding tool. I will be able to put it to use!
